AHA’s (Acid) works to treat acne by unclogging blocked pores. It does this by breaking down the bonds between dead skin cells so that they can release from the pore more easily, and breaking down oils, such as sebum. Acid also decreases the skin’s sebum production, leading to fewer breakouts.
Beta Hydroxy Acids (Salicylic Acid)
As with AHAs, BHAs act as exfoliants on the skin. They break down the substance that adheres debris and sebum to the skin, minimizing the appearance of acne and clogged pores in the process. Salicylic acid can reduce acne by exfoliating the skin and keeping pores clear.
Mandelic Acid
Mandelic acid is a type of gentle alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). It may help reduce acne, fine lines, and wrinkles and improve the appearance of uneven skin. It can also help with acne and reduce the appearance of acne scars.
Mandelic acid has a larger molecule size than other popular alpha hydroxy acids. The larger molecular size means it doesn’t penetrate as deeply into your skin when you apply it. That makes it gentler than other acids.
